Joe Lee Wilson - Feelin' Good

This album came about almost by chance. Joe Lee, Kirk Lightsey, Dave Wickins and Steve Watts - with Julian Siegel depping on bass on one date and busting on sax on another - were in the middle of a tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland in May and June of 2000 when news came through that the last scheduled date has been cancelled. This disappointment turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

The material was already familiar and had been worked up (but not overworked) during the tour. The music here represents the extraordinary richness and breadth of Joe Lee's repertoire.

The beautiful ballad 'There's No You,' performed as a duet with Kirk, is the only one of the selections not played on any of the tour dates. Midway through the session Joe Lee suddenly decided that he must have a duet on the album. After much rifling through music sheets in a bulging satchel, out came a dog eared piano part. Within a couple of minutes of being in front of he formidable piano man, the recording button was pressed. In one unpremeditated take, Joe Lee and Kirk produced a dinner time gem. That's jazz!
